At the time of the accident, the aircraft was carrying 26 members of the Medium Tiltrotor Naval Squadron 265.
Three Marines on the helicopter died in the incident, while the other 23 were rescued by colleagues.
Those killed are 1st Lt.Col. Benjamin Cross, 26, of Oxford, Maine, Cpl. Nathaniel Ordway, 21, of Sedgwick, Kansas, and Pfc. Ruben Velasco, 19, of Los Angeles.
The footage that has emerged does not show the moment the helicopter went down, with the sailor filming the incident taking cover.

The accident resulted in a hole in the hole, causing the helicopter to flood when it sank. Those who died could not escape from the pit.
The Osprey has had an unremarkable safety record since it was first introduced into the field, with 51 people killed in accidents involving the helicopter since its maiden voyage in 1989.
The MV-22 Osprey involved in the disaster had launched from the USS Bonhomme Richard and was conducting regular scheduled operations when it crashed into the water.
The plane was in Australia for joint military training held by the US and Australia last month in Shoalwater Bay. Exercise Talisman Saber, a biennial event between the two nations that year, involved more than 30,000 troops and 200 aircraft.

A Pentagon investigation later concluded that the Osprey crashed because it experienced too much "downwash" — the deflection of air around its rotors.
